The Energy Pack is a hydrogen-based Power to Gas to Power system, able to be coupled with a renewable energy source to supply directly hydrogen or electric power or heat.

Its available in a 10ft or a 20ft configuration depending on the requirements to store up to 600 kWh of electric energy (or 40 kgH2) with a 10ft configuration or 3000 kWh (or 180 kgH2) with a 20 ft configuration. Moreover, it always possible to upgrade the H2 storage in a safe, efficient and high-density way exploiting the high energy density of the Metal Hydride hydrogen storage system.

Energy Pack design

The Energy Pack has been designed with a compartmentation principle in accordance with the IEC 60079-10

The Energy Pack is composed by three main elements, Electrolyser (EL), Metal Hydrides (MH) and Fuel Cells (FC), that can be sized independently modifying the absorption power, the energy storage capacity, the desorption power respectively with the following size ranges:

Safety first

Designed with an easy integration in mind and to comply with ATEX classification, CE directives and international standards:

  • to warranty safe operation even in emergency situations like an emergency vent
  • normal operation with forced ventilation for active components like EL and FC
  • and natural ventilation for the MH storage

Easy Integration

The plug-in format ease the integration of a power to gas system, concentrating into a unique product all the technical issue related to the hydrogen technologies. Thanks to the metal hydride hydrogen low-pressure storage, the safety distances are reduced (e.g. compliancy with the Italian DM. 07/07/23)

CFD Assessment

A safety report by an external consultant has been developed which includes a detailed CFD analysis of the flammable gas propagation in the unlikely case of a hydrogen loss. It proves that our strategy of containing the hydrogen in the central compartment using a passive system maintains safety throughout all machine states, including a complete lack of power. When the hydrogen is being produced or used in other parts of the Energy Pack, active measures are in place to continuously monitor the process and respond safely in case of anomalies

Control

A plug-in system cannot be such without a state-of-the-art control system like the one that equipe all Bluenergy Revolution products, included the Energy Pack. The embedded PLC is able to control automatically the routines to manage hydrogen production+storage or fuel cell consumption+storage and so on, including all the safety features related to ventilation, pressures, temperatures and many other safety parameters, in accordance with IEC 61508 SIL.

Daily energy storage

The Energy Pack is an ideal solution to improve the energy storage capacity of battery storage, with the advantage of maximizing the flexibility of thanks to the capacity to produce electricity, gas or heat, an advantageous feature in a continuous evolving Multi Energy System scenario

Long-term and seasonal energy storage

While the advantage in terms of energy storage is visible for long-term or seasonal storages, where the constant Round Trip Efficiency  favor Power to Gas solution against battery solution

Energy Pack types

The Energy Pack is available with a high level of customization. In fact, the system is based on three main components that can be sized depending on the specific requirements:

  • Electrolyser from 7 up to 28 kW
  • Metal Hydrides from 5 up to 40 kgH2 (180 for 20ft)
  • Fuel Cells from 2.5 up to 60 kW
